Opening Night of SINBAD at penangpac.

Thank you Alexander for helping me post a couple of SINBAD pictures. Its intermission time now! First half went OK but not as good as last night during dress rehearsal. House almost full. As usual, there are late comers hahaha. Its the life in the theatre.
2nd May 2014

My goodness, I am getting slower and slower as I grow older in updating my WAYANG. My apologies. There's so much to do and so little time.

Yesterday one of our grand nieces - grand daughter of Zurina and Rahim, and daughter of Razina abd Faizal, got married. Pity Joe and I could not be there. Razina is just 5 weeks older than my son Feroz and spent much of her very young days with my father as he ferried Razina, Feroz and Amir to and from kindergarten. Time has flown. the three grew up, still close, but Feroz had to pass on, He did get narried too, to Christine from the US and he led such a different life from theirs. He studied journalism and switched to film, and loved every minute of his life as a film person and a writer. His other passion was sports especially cricket and football. He also grew up with like minded friends, Douglas, Kelvin, Michael, Guru, Vijay and Yvonne to bane a few. They shared many other passions.

My other reason for this blog is to let you know that The Actors Studio Seni Theater Rakyat joined hands with Short+Sweet International and presented SINBAD THE MUSICAL at PENTAS 1 klpac from April 2nd to April 27th, then to penangpac from May 2nd to May 11th. Tonight is opening night at penangpac. It has been a long and arduous journey from the moments of auditions last year to selection of actors both from Australia and KL, rehearsals, finalising scripts, finalising songs, choreography, sets, costumes, props, lighting, sound, merchandise etc, etc.

We have videoed as much as we can of the whole making of Sinbad. Mark Cleary of S+S International wants to take SINBAD touring the world - a great idea. But Joe and I have been so stung by the lack of sponsorship and funding that we regrettfully not be able to partake this glorious mission. We are also unsure if this version of SINBAD has a strong enough storyline - several negative comments in this department has been heard - for it to hit the International circuit. Cest la vie!

Coming back to Penang, Penang is giving a better effort in buying tickets than KL. KL is forever requesting for bargains. Penang seems to understand the ticket prices are here to stay. Kudos to Alexander our Penang publicist and his team. A lesson learnt for us in KL. Avoid opening cans of worms like comps and discounts. You think we can?

Thank you for supporting Malaysian Theatre.
